The following 5 day unit plan uses primary source images of the National Mall and a modern tourist primary source map to observe, reflect, and explain some the varied historical sites available to students, educators, and travelers alike. In particular, students will explore three of the following sites:

  • Capitol Building
  • Lincoln Memorial
  • WWII Memorial
  • Vietnam Memorial

Students are ultimately expected to create a brochure about the three sites they have selected. Each brochure will share the name of the site, what events inspired each memorial, what events have happened at the site, and include a labeled map of the national mall. Includes objects, curriculum standards, assessments, and learning activities.
