¡Colorín colorado!: A resource for educators and families of English language learners

An educational service of WETA, the flagship public broadcasting station in the nation’s capital and funded by the American Federation of Teachers and the National Education Association, Colorín’ Colorado has been offering free research-based information, activities, and advice to parents, schools, and communities around the country for more than a decade. Social Studies materials from Colorín Colorado include featured articles, blog posts, videos related to the instruction of ELL students, and research in the field. Focusing on the challenge and importance of strengthening background knowledge for ELLs, Colorín Colorado provides ideas and guidance for planning effective Social Studies lessons and choosing appropriate academic language and vocabulary.
