Educating for American Democracy

Disability History and Civics Extension

The Learning Disabilities Association of America (LDA) and Emerging America proudly endorsed the Educating for American Democracy Roadmap (EAD) and drafted the EAD Roadmap Disability History and Civics Extension. We are eager to involve additional educators and organizations in fostering inclusion in history and civics. See below many workshops and courses that bring this work to teachers. Reflecting this deepening commitment, Emerging America and partners will soon begin to draft a cohesive, fully accessible K-12 Curriculum: History of People with Disabilities–grounded in the EAD. Complete a short survey to give input and to learn more about how to get involved. Watch the recording of our March 25 webinar with LDA.

Course on the U.S. Constitution: The Right to Privacy

"The Most Valued and Comprehensive Right"

May 3 to June 25 - PDPs or 3 graduate credits.

 Info & Registration

Photo and text from dontbreakourphones.org. (February, 2016) “The FBI just got a judge to order Apple to create a backdoor into the iPhone—putting all of our safety at risk by exposing personal information to hackers, criminals, terrorists, and government spies.” -

This course will explore how the constitutional right to privacy developed; how it is applied; and the threats it faces today—from sexual to virtual. Neither the original body of the Constitution nor the Bill of Rights explicitly refers to a right to privacy, yet many amendments, like the 3rd, 4th, and 5th, clearly relate. - Instructor, Kelley Brown
